Evacuated Ride at Epcot: What Happened??
The Incident
So, um, I just came across some news that really caught my attention. A fire at Epcot? Yes, you heard that right! On March 22, during a time that’s usually bursting with families enjoying their spring break, a fire broke out at the France Pavilion. That’s super close to one of my favorite attractions, the Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. It’s kind of wild to think how something like this can interrupt the magic.
According to reports, the trouble started when a walk-in cooler backstage apparently “caught fire.” I have no idea what exactly a walk-in cooler does in a theme park—but sounding that ominous definitely raises some eyebrows! Thankfully though, most importantly, no injuries were reported while this drama unfolded.
Guest Experiences
The whole scene was a little concerning, to say the least. There were actual photos popping up on social media showing thick plumes of black smoke billowing up in the air. It’s like something straight out of a movie! One eyewitness recounted their experience in a Facebook group – they were on the Skyliner when they spotted the smoke starting to drift. I can’t imagine how eerie that must have felt, gliding above and realizing smoke could potentially fill your cabin. That kind of brings a whole new meaning to “smoky flavor,” doesn’t it?
Guests had to be evacuated from the ride, which is never the enjoyable part of a theme park visit, but it sounds like Disney did their best to manage the situation quickly. I mean, we’ve all heard those horror stories about ride malfunctions, but something like a fire is on a whole different level of scary.
The Fire Response
I have to hand it to Disney—not just for their magical experiences but also their readiness to handle emergencies! Fire Services were on the scene, and they managed to extinguish the blaze quickly—by 7:20 p.m., they had it under control. I can’t even imagine the stress of orchestrating something like that with thousands of guests around. While many were having an awesome time, others were suddenly figuring out the best escape routes. It’s crazy to think a walk-in cooler could lead to such a bustling scene.
After the Incident
Once things calmed down a bit, the French Pavilion did reopen at 8:20 p.m., just an hour after being closed. But still, wow, going back to a park where something just went down like that? That takes some guts. I think I’d need a little time to recharge after witnessing something so chaotic.
By 9:00 p.m., the park closed as per usual—though I bet there were a bunch of guests with wild stories to tell about the evening. It’s kind of heartening to see that the magic continued, even after a little backfire—pun intended. If you’re planning on visiting soon, I say go for it! But, you know, keep an eye out for fires—even if they are from coolers! Spring break at Epcot is seriously buzzing right now, especially with the International Flower & Garden Festival happening until June 2. Full blooms and full vibes, right?
